Cloud computing seems to mean many different things to different people – but one thing is certain: Enterprise Architects are under a lot of pressure to understand its implications for their organizations. This session will seek to lay the foundation of understanding what the cloud is from an internal (private) and external (public) architecture perspective and describe the layers of services that cloud technology can provide. We’ll also survey a number of services that are being offered by vendors and contrast what layers of services they belong to and investigate some of their architectural qualities.
After laying this groundwork we’ll go over critical ways that cloud computing will influence the use of technology by individuals and enterprises in the present and future. In particular, we’ll look at current and likely future innovations and how Enterprise Architects can develop strategies for leveraging them for creating increased agility, new capabilities and improved resource utilization in their organizations. At the end of the session, an attendee will have learned 5 essential things to keep in mind when assessing incorporating cloud computing in their IT strategies.
